Air Zinc hearing aid batteries can be used for some of these applications.
Wein cells are zinc-air and they start dissipating when you pull the tab.The
hearing aid cells are 1.35V and are very reasonable, like 6 for $4. The must
be much on the battery discussion in the archives.Harry Fleenor had some
good ideas on estimating distances that I can't find. That was my first hang
up in going to the Rollei 35 but what G King says is valid.
As for small cameras I have owned a Minox 35 GS, a Kiev (Russian Minox GT
copy), Rollei 35S. Rollei 35SE, Rollei 35 German and a Rollei 35 TE plus a
Ricoh GR1s

issue stops me cold.

are useless because of this issue. I've tried the Wein cells and given up on
them. The focusing issue isn't all that disturbing. You can train yourself
to estimate distance in the 3-30 foot range with fair accuracy, particularly
for apertures used in casual outdoor shooting.
