Geoff,
For sure the self timer mechanism is fine - the problem is that the self
timer tripping ring has most likely, not been adjusted properly on
reassembly. The self timer in an MX-EVS is not in the shutter, but sits
by the viewing lens and the tripping ring is actually around the viewing
lens. Send the camera back for this adjustment - it is not too difficult
to do, but requires the front of the camera to be removed.
