I started using a slide rule age 13 at school. I hated using logarithms and
found it quite accurate enough for physics and chemistry. I bought a
British-made Unique and eventually wore it out (it was made of plastic
covered wood) and replaced it with a Faber-Castell which I continued to use
until whilst doing post-graduate research I acquired one of the first
electronic calculators in 1971.
I still have the slide rule but have not used it for 30 years.
