I have a nice wooden Dietzgen mounted in a frame behind glass, with the
words "Break Glass in case of emergency".
It goes on my office wall, and I still remember how to use it.
The nice thing is that I took Physics and most there problems didn't
involve addition, just functions and large number multiplication. I got
good at tracking the exponent. As a matter of fact, if you stay within
Physics, most problems are considered solved if you are within a factor of
2 or so of the right answer.
It served me all through high school, college, and into engineering until
the HP 35 came out.
I also have some metal and bamboo ones but they were never as smooth in
operation.
I also have a cylindrical magnifier which clips onto the slider, required
in those days.
