Hi,
That pouch, as you call it, was designed to hold the optically flat glass
plate that fit the E3 and later F models as well as the Tele and Wide. The
plate was used with an optional camera back having a "bump" in it, which bump
snuggled just below the pouch above.
Unless a shallower front was placed on it, the case was for an E3 since there
is no cutout for the filter factor dial.
