It's simple. When you push the knob on the counter (you did get it, didn't
you?), a pin pushes the inner part of the take-up spool. The aluminium part
of the spool goes to the right and thus pushes up the lever of the mask.
This unlocks the mask and you can advance to the next frame.

It's a real genius design, like the rest of the camera.
