Surprise, surprise, there is a hidden 1/500 in your Rolleicord! Thats why
the shutter is called Compur 'Rapid'. 
Just move the speed dial past the 250 ... further ... still further ... and
there it is - the 500.

You should make sure that you select that speed first and THEN cock the
shutter not the other way round.

And yes, the auxiliary finder is dim and there is not much you can do about
it - just don't use it.
