Charlie Barringer, former long-time President of the Zeiss Historica
Society and co-author of Hove's ZEISS COMPENDIUM, is the compiler of the
Zeiss Lens List.  Simon Worseley compiles the numbers from Compur shutters
and Zeiss Ikon folding cameras.  Peter Keesing compiles Contax RF numbers.
Jack Kelly compiles Zeiss binocular numbers.  

The important part of these numbers is that they become a research tool for
dating production, determining authenticity, calculating relative rarities,
and analyzing production techniques.
