Never knew an Alf.  I HAVE known four or five "Bert's", though, and a
couple of Bob's.  My VW mechanics have always been US nationals.  I believe
all of the English car mechanics in New England, for that matter, are
German or, at least, the large selection of them that I met, before I
learned how to rebuild engines myself.
