I used to repair these when they were current. I still have one out of
sentimental value.

The lens diaphragm should be all the way open when the lens is mounted on
the camera.  If the lens does not do this off the camera, then the plate in
the camera which pushed on the pin on the lens to close the diaphragm may
be bent or the lens may be messed up.  You'd need another body or lens
to tell which has the problem.

If the camera will not fire in the X position, it has problems.  If it
will fire on X but not the other speeds, it either needs a new battery
or the battery contacts are dirty (unless someone has been mucking around
inside it).  If it won't fire on X at all, then it has some real internal
problem, most likely in the shutter.
