I had an XA once and didn't think the rangefinder was all that useful.  The
lens throw was so short the rangefinder was really not much better than
setting the distance manually.

If I'm concerned about limiting DOF with the R35, my subject is probably a
person and I can gauge the distance by the size of their head in the
viewfinder.

I would like to have a quarter though for every time I missed a shot
because I pushed the &*! lens release button instead of the shutter.  I
never did that with the XA.
