   Thanks to all who had a shot at this. My memory is about the same as
Tim's, namely
that this was a house brand lens sold by one of the big mail order outfits
in the late 40's - early 50's.  I doubt it was an Ilex lens; they had a
couple of favorite trade names, Paragon being the most often used.
  Most of my collection of photo magazines of the period are stashed away
in boxes so are not easily accessible. I may have to spend some time in the
garage getting dusty since my curiosity is definitely roused now.  If I
find anything definite I will post it here.
