I am not insulting Zeiss, simply to say that the quality was not
superb as it was in later years directly after WW2. It would be hard
to produce quality with minimal machinery and a short supply of Schott
Glass. Sorry, I do not mean to commit blasphemy here, simple realize
that war does take its toll even on the foremost companies, such as
Zeiss. No factory, or the need to rebuild one certainly helped
improve things later, but during 1945 - 1947 I was not on this planet,
so I must go by what I read from Viktor Hasselblad, Prochnow, et al.

Peter

The decision by Dr Nagel to use JSK lenses on the Retina line was made in
1935, not 1945.

The relocation of Zeiss to Oberkochen meant that lens SUPPLIES were short,
not that quality went down. The world's premier optical works simply did
not, and does not, sell junk.
