Extension tubes

regarding Rollei extension tubes - lets just say maybe there is a market
for a specialized fncay variable extension tube, and somewhere there are
folks willing to pay $1500-2500 for it. I guess my question is how about
fixed ones? I was quoted somewhere around $500 for one of those. Isn't that
a bit of money for one? Sure I can see how on a small production run, with
those metering connections it might be costly to make and with a smaller
demand for these systems somewhat expensive to distribute, but don't these
prices seem a bit stiff? Certainly quelled my urge to go buy one.
